Definition

「座っている」は、人や動物が座っている状態や、物や場所が特定の位置にあることを表します。また、何かがそのまま残っている状態も意味します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に人や動物について使います（'She sits by the window.'）。場所や物にも使われることがあります（'The house sits on a hill.'）。「何かがそのままある」状態にも使います（'The food sits in the fridge.'）。「seat」とは意味が異なるので注意。
