「short（短い）」の最上級形で、グループの中で最も長さ、高さ、期間が短いものや人を表します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「the shortest」は3つ以上を比べる場合によく使います。長さ・高さ・時間に使われ、数量には使いません。その場合「least」を使います。
