Definition

避難所は、人や動物が危険や悪天候、住む場所がないときに身を守る場所です。保護そのものを指すこともあります。

「避難所を探す」「避難所に入る」など、災害時や緊急時によく使います。「動物シェルター」「ホームレスシェルター」という表現も一般的です。動詞では「守る」「避難させる」意味になります。

We found shelter from the rain under a bridge.
