影

Definition

光が人や物によって遮られるとできる暗い形が影です。物事が隠れていたり、はっきりしない雰囲気にも使われます。

『影』は通常数えられます。「影を落とす」「影に立つ」「影で」「影を見る」などの表現があります。比喩的には秘密、恐怖、悪い印象なども表します。「shade（陰）」とは区別しましょう。

The trees made long shadows on the road.

木々が道に長い**影**を作っていた。
