スプーンなどの道具で何かをすくい取ったり持ち上げたりすること。報道では他社より先にニュースを手に入れて伝える意味もある。

食品では「アイスをすくった」、動物や物でも「猫をすくい上げた」など幅広く使う。ニュースの分野では抜け駆けして報じる意味がある。過去形。
