何かを注意深くまたは素早く見ること、特に装置や目で。機械でデジタルコピーを作ることや、文章・場所をさっと見ることも指します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「scanning」はスキャナー使用（例 'scanning a document'）や、さっと見て探す場合（'scanning a text'）に使います。「skimming」（ざっと読む）とは違います。
