衛星とは、惑星や他の天体の周りを回る物体です。自然のもの（例えば月）や、通信・気象・測位などのために打ち上げられた人工のものがあります。

日常会話で「衛星」は一般的に人工衛星を指します。'衛星放送', '衛星画像', '衛星アンテナ', '衛星電話'などと使います。月を自然衛星と呼ぶ場合もあります。
