何かの理由や誰かの利益のために行うことを表す言葉。また、日本の米から作るお酒も指す。

「for the sake of」や「for someone's sake」の形で、目的や利益のために使われる。単独で使うことはほとんどなく、飲み物の「酒」は「さけ」と発音する。

She did it for the sake of her children.

彼女は子供たちの**ため**にそれをした。
