Definition
運動やスポーツとして走る人。伝令や配達人、または細長い敷物（テーブルランナーやカーペット）を指すこともある。

最も一般的には運動選手を表す。'front-runner'（トップ）、'runner-up'（2位）などの複合語でも使う。テーブル中央の装飾布も'ランナー'。
