都会的な知識がなく、世間知らずな田舎出身の人を指す俗語です。人をだましやすいというニュアンスもあります。

くだけた表現で、侮蔑・からかいの意味を含むことが多いです。「田舎者」に似ています。アメリカ英語の古い映画などでよく使われます。

Everyone laughed at the rube who tried the city subway for the first time.
