परिभाषा

음식이나 식물이 박테리아나 곰팡이 때문에 분해되어서 부드럽거나 냄새가 나고, 안전하지 않게 되는 상태를 말합니다.

일상에서 음식, 식물, 나무 등 자연스럽게 상한 상태에 자주 씁니다. 금속이 녹슬다(‘rusting’)나 음료가 상했다(‘spoiled’)와는 구분하세요. “썩는 냄새”, “썩은 쓰레기”처럼 씁니다.

The apple is rotting on the ground.

사과가 땅에서 **썩고 있다**.

We smelled something rotting in the fridge.
