'বাসিন্দা' শব্দটি সাধারণত স্থায়ী বা দীর্ঘমেয়াদী অবস্থানকারী ব্যক্তি বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়, অস্থায়ী অতিথি বা পর্যটকদের জন্য ব্যবহৃত হয় না। যেমন: 'স্থানীয় বাসিন্দা', 'স্থায়ী বাসিন্দা'।
