誰かや何かの代わりをする行為、または記号・画像・例を通して何かを示すこと。何かの提示や見せ方を指すこともある。

主にフォーマル、学術、法的文脈で使われる。'政治的表現'、'視覚的表現'などの言い回しが多い。人の代理も物事の表し方も指す。'presentation'（プレゼン）と混同しないこと。
