특히 유럽에서 (14~17세기) 예술, 문학, 학문의 부흥기로 알려진 역사적 시기. 어떤 것이 다시 활발하거나 중요해지는 상황에도 쓸 수 있다.

주로 학술, 역사적 맥락에서 유럽 르네상스를 언급할 때 대문자로 표기. 소문자 'renaissance'는 일반적인 부흥이나 재유행 의미로 쓰임. 일상적 재생엔 'revival', '복귀'를 더 많이 씀.
