残るとどまる

同じ場所や状態に変わらずいること。また、使われた後に何かが残ることも指す。

「remain」は「stay」よりフォーマルで、「remain calm」や「remain silent」のように形容詞・名詞句と共に使うことが多い。また、数や物が残る時にも「remain」を使う。

Please remain seated until the bus stops.

バスが止まるまで、席に**とどまって**ください。

Only three cookies remain on the plate.
