手綱は馬などを操るために使う細長いひもです。また、何かをコントロールしたり指導するという意味でも使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

乗馬の際は複数形「reins」で使われることが多い。”take the reins”は主導権を握るという意味。''rain''や''reign''とは意味が違うため注意。
