摂政とは、君主が若すぎる、病気、または不在などで統治できないときに、代わりに国を治める人です。

『摂政』は歴史や王室、法律関係で使われる正式な言葉です。『王の摂政』などの表現が多く、日常会話ではあまり使いません。『地域』や『政権』と混同しないように注意しましょう。
