عملية استكشاف أو مسح منطقة ما، خاصة لجمع معلومات عسكرية أو استراتيجية قبل اتخاذ إجراء آخر.

يستخدم غالبًا في السياقات العسكرية أو الاستراتيجية ('مهمة استطلاع'، 'استطلاع جوي'). قد يُستخدم أحيانًا مجازًا لجمع المعلومات. نادر في الحديث اليومي.
