何かをするべきだという助言や提案。また、人の能力や実績を推薦する文書や言葉も指します。

『recommendation』は「tip」や「hint」よりもフォーマルな場面で使います。「推薦状」や公式な助言として使われ、'recommendation letter'は『推薦状』に当たります。
