Definition
粘土のような柔らかい素材で、窓の隙間を埋めたり穴をふさぐために使います。おもちゃとして形を作ったりして遊ぶこともあります。

「パテ」は主に修繕や補修作業で使います。おもちゃとしてはカラフルな「パテ」。「like putty in someone's hands」は「思いのままに操られる」ニュアンスです。
