誰かがルールを破ったり悪いことをした時に与えられる、嫌な結果や処置。家庭や学校、法律など様々な場面で使われる。

法律や日常の両方でよく使う。'severe punishment'（厳しい罰）、'physical punishment'（体罰）、'punishmentを受ける'などの言い回しがある。「punishment」は名詞、「punish」は動詞。
