州や県は国を構成する地域の一つで、多くは独自の地方自治体を持ちます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

'州'や'県'はカナダや中国のように行政区画を指すが、アメリカのステートには通常使わない。'the provinces'は首都や大都市以外の地方を意味する場合も。古風な使い方で「担当分野」の意味もある。
