「properties」は物の性質や特徴、不動産（家や土地など）を指します。

科学では『特性』が性質や特徴を指し、日常生活では『不動産』が土地や家など物理的な所有物を意味します。「proper」とは違うので注意。

The scientist studied the properties of water.
