人や物事がよく知られていて重要であること、または外見上はっきり目立っていることを表します。地位が高い人物や、見た目ではっきり分かる特徴について使われます。

'prominent'は「有名」「重要」と「目立つ」の2つの意味があります。'prominent figure'（著名人）、'prominent feature'（目立つ特徴）などの表現でよく使います。
