法律や規則によって何かを正式に禁止すること。特にアメリカの歴史の禁酒法時代も指すことがある。

「禁止」は公的・法律的な場面で使われます。「the prohibition of X」は「Xの禁止」と訳されます。アメリカの歴史用語として「禁酒法時代」とも表現されます。日常的な軽い禁止には使わず、「禁止」より「制限」や「ダメ」などを使うことが多いです。
