口実

Definition

本当の理由を隠すために使われる、偽りの理由や口実のこと。

「口実」はややフォーマルで、意図的なごまかしや偽りの意味が含まれる。「〜という口実で」「口実に使う」などのフレーズでよく使われる。単なる言い訳（言い訳）とは区別すること。

He left early on the pretext of feeling sick.

彼は体調が悪いという**口実**で早く帰った。
