大きな場所の中で、投票や警察業務、管理などのために区切られた特定の区域や、建物や施設を囲む敷地を指します。

'voting precinct'（投票区）、'police precinct'（警察署管区）の形でよく使われます。'エリア'や'近所'より公的・公式なニュアンスが強く、文脈により意味が変わります。
