Definition

家や建物の入口部分に付いている屋根付きのスペースで、座ったり物を置いたりする場所です。

特にアメリカ英語で『front porch』『back porch』のように入口の種類で呼ばれることが多いです。『バルコニー』や『テラス』とは場所・高さが違います。『ポーチに座る』『ポーチの灯り』などの表現でよく使われます。

The dog is sleeping on the porch.
