Definition

ポールは細長い木や金属などの棒で、何かを支えるために使われます。また、地球や磁石などの両端（極）を指すこともあります。

電話のポールや旗のポールには「柱」を使い、地理や科学の「North Pole」「South Pole」には「極」を使います。「pole」と「poll」（世論調査）を混同しないようにしてください。

The dog is tied to a pole in the yard.
