कोई चीज़ जो विषैली हो उसमें ज़हर होता है और यदि खाया, छुआ या निगला जाए तो हानिकारक या जानलेवा हो सकती है। यह आमतौर पर खतरनाक जानवरों, पौधों, रसायनों या पदार्थों के लिए इस्तेमाल होता है।

"Poisonous" का इस्तेमाल उन चीज़ों के लिए होता है, जिन्हें खाने या छूने से नुकसान पहुँचता है, जैसे सांप, मशरूम या रसायन। इसे "venomous" से न मिलाएँ (ज़हर इंजेक्ट करने वाले जानवर)। आम तौर पर 'poisonous plant', 'poisonous gas', 'highly poisonous' जैसे शब्दों में आता है।
