通常指公開作出的承諾或正式保證，要做某事或支持某個事業。“pledges”也可以指莊重的誓言或保證。

常見於正式或公共場合（慈善、政治、組織），常與“make”、“honor”、“break”、“fulfill”搭配。既可以指口頭承諾，也可以指書面承諾。募款時，pledges指捐款承諾。
