খুব ছোট জলজ জীব যা নদী, হ্রদ বা সাগরের পানিতে ভেসে থাকে এবং অনেক সামুদ্রিক প্রাণীর প্রধান খাদ্য।

'Plankton' সাধারণত বহুবচন হয় না এবং সংখ্যায় গণনা করা হয় না। এতে উদ্ভিদ জাতীয় ও প্রাণী জাতীয় উভয় প্ল্যাঙ্কটন অন্তর্ভুক্ত; বৈজ্ঞানিক ও পরিবেশগত আলাপে বেশি ব্যবহৃত হয়।
