人の皮膚を指で強く挟んで軽く痛みを与えること。また、少量の物を指す場合や、お金や資源が足りない困った状況を指すこともある。

'つねる'は指で皮膚を挟む動作。'a pinch of salt'は料理でごく少量加えるとき。'in a pinch'は「いざとなれば」という意味。'feel the pinch'は「経済的に苦しくなる」という表現。'punch'（パンチ）と混同しないように。
