• 柱（はしら）- 支柱（しちゅう）(比喩的な意味)

Definition

建物などを支える縦長の構造物。また、システムや考え方の根幹となる重要な存在も指す。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

建造物以外に比喩として“democracyの柱”のようにも使われる。「カラム（列）」とは別の意味なので注意。
