Definition

柱は建物を支える高くて丈夫な構造物です。また、組織や集団の成功や強さを支える重要な存在も指します。

建築以外にも、重要な人や物を比喩的に指す時にも使われます（例：'a pillar of the community'）。小さい物には使いません。

The temple has a large pillar in the center.
