花のやわらかくて色のある部分で、多くは輪のように並び、虫などを引き寄せる役割がある。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

複数形で使うことが多いです。「leaves（葉）」とは異なり、花の装飾部分です。「rose petals（バラの花びら）」などのように、詩的にも科学的にも用いられます。
