「perpetual」はフォーマルや文学的な文脈で使われることが多く、例えば「perpetual motion」「perpetual smile」など。遮るものがなく続く様子を表し、「constant」や「continuous」より強い意味合いを持つ。人間の一生には使われず、その場合は「lifelong」を使う。
