Definition

パーセンタイルとは、ある値が全体の中でどの位置にあるかを示し、それより低い値が全体の何パーセントかを表します。

主に統計、教育、医療の分野で使われます。「90番目のパーセンタイル」「上位のパーセンタイル」などの表現があります。「パーセンテージ」とは異なるので注意しましょう。

Examples

Her height is in the 85th percentile for her age group.

If you are in the 60th percentile, you scored better than 60% of people.
