এটি 'patient' শব্দের বহুবচন, মানে চিকিৎসা গ্রহণকারী ব্যক্তি। 'patient' (ধৈর্যশীল) শব্দের সাথে যেন ভুল না হয়। যেমন 'hospital patients', 'treat patients', 'patient care' - এসব বাক্যে ব্যবহৃত হয়।
