病理學家是透過檢查身體組織、血液或其他樣本來研究疾病、通常是為了幫助診斷疾病的醫生。

這是正式的醫學術語。病理學家一般在醫院或實驗室工作，很少直接接觸病人，是透過分析樣本協助其他醫生診斷。不要與「心理學家」或「生物學家」混淆。
