"over" in Japanese

上に以上終わった～中

Definition

何かの上にあること、一定の数や量を超えること、または何かが終わったことを表すときに使われます。

日常会話でよく使われます。位置（'over the bridge'）、数量（'over ten people'）、時間や出来事（'over the weekend'）で使います。また、支配や権限（'take over'）を表すこともあります。静的な意味の『above』とは区別してください。

The picture hangs over the sofa.

絵はソファの**上に**掛かっています。

There are over twenty students in the class.

クラスには**以上**二十人の生徒がいます。

The meeting is over now.

会議はもう**終わった**。

Let's talk it over before deciding.
