主に中国・日本・韓国など東アジアやその文化、芸術、人々を指す言葉です。ただし、人に対して使う場合は古く不適切とされています。

今でも「東洋の美術」「オリエンタル絨毯」のように、芸術や物について使われますが、人については避けられています。人を表す時は「アジア系」を使いましょう。
