권위 있는 기관이나 정부, 조직에서 인정하거나 발표한 방식. 어떤 사실이 최종적으로 확정되었음을 나타낼 때도 사용한다.

'공식 발표', '공식 개장', '공식적으로 결혼' 등 뉴스, 비즈니스, 법률에서 많이 쓰임. 비공식적 상황과 대조됨. 일상에서는 '이제 정말로 피곤하다'처럼 강조할 때도 쓴다.
