新星是指一顆恆星突然在短時間內變得非常明亮，隨後恢復到原來的亮度。這是由於恆星表面的爆發造成的。

「新星」主要在天文領域使用，不用來描述人或事物。不要和「超新星」混淆，超新星是一種更劇烈的現象。複數仍為「新星」。
