ある役職や賞、任務などに誰かを公式に推薦すること。候補者として提案する意味です。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に政治や賞などの公式な場面で使われるフォーマルな表現。「nominate someone for/as...」の形が多い。「elect」（選ぶ）や「recommend」（推薦する）とは異なる。
