神経とは、脳と体の他の部分をつなぐ細い糸のような体の一部です。また、難しい場面での勇気や、失礼なくらいの大胆さも意味します。

医療分野では「背中の神経」などと使います。勇気や図々しさでは「have the nerve to…（大胆にも～する）」や「lose your nerve（怖気づく）」などの表現があります。「nerves」は「緊張」や「不安」を指す場合が多いので区別しましょう。

The dentist said the pain comes from a damaged nerve.
