使某物變得無聲或無法被聽到,特別是電子設備。作為形容詞時,也可以指不能說話的人。

“Mute” 可作動詞(to mute the TV)或形容詞(a mute person)。在電子設備中經常用來表示暫時關閉聲音。形容人時已較少用,因為可能被認為是不禮貌的,建議用“失語”或“不能說話”。
