小声で、はっきりしないように話すこと。相手に言葉がよく聞こえない状態を指します。

基本的にカジュアルな場面で使うことが多いです。「mumbles something」は、なにか小声で不明瞭につぶやく意味。「mutters」は、特に不満や苛立ちがあるときに使います。
