塚や小さな盛り上がった丘、または物がたくさん重なった山のことです。比喩的に多量の物にも使います。
Usage Notes (Japanese)
野球用語の『ピッチャーマウンド』や、物が大量に積まれている様子（a mound of papers）にも使われます。自然の大きな山には「山」を使います。
