動機

Definition

動機とは、人が何かをする根本的な理由や、本当の（特に隠された）理由を指します。犯罪や行動の理由としてよく使われます。

「motive」は主に犯罪や疑わしい状況の理由を述べる際に用いるやや硬い言葉です。「motivation（モチベーション）」とは異なり、具体的かつ隠れた理由の意味合いが強いです。

The police could not find a clear motive for the attack.

警察はその襲撃の明確な**動機**を見つけられなかった。
